Cadillac
Jeepers Sponsored Event: Jeep Blessing 2004
This was our first time
to attend the Jeep Blessing. We were told by Jake Foster to arrive
at the Boon Baptist Church at 9:00. We were jeep 138. Jake had mentioned
that they might need another trail boss for the ride and of course
we told him we were willing to help anyway we could. We had to fill
out a basic information sheet and sign a waiver release for the
obstacle course. We were given a numbered pink tie-on for
our antenna so at the course they would know we had filled out the
appropriate forms. Mike and I walked around taking pictures of jeeps
that we liked and meeting a couple of the jeep owners. We were surprised
to see some other types of vehicles, The Cookie Monster, a Kyser
from the Whitehall, Michigan 4x4 Club, a suburban, a couple of Toyota
Land Crusiers, and Isuzu, full size chevy truck, a built up Ranger,
and a Chevy Blazer. When everyone had arrived and signed up the
instructional meeting was next. Deb Stafford
was MC. Scheduled for the day was presented. Door prizes blessing,
a trail ride to Ellens Corners, obstacle course, kids games, Monster
Truck Rides (Blue Thunder),raffle for the 33" Mickey Thompson
Claws were on the schedule. Door Prizes were for farthest
away(Miles not hours, some people drive really slow), Tennesse
was the winner. How late the night before
did they work on their jeep to get to the blessing-4:30 in
the morning- by the guys from Grand Rapids. Oldest
Jeep was a '46 red Willys. Newest Jeep
-2004 bought in the last month.-Cascade
4wheel drive guy. Same Jeep for the longest-
the guy bought his '77 in '78 and still owned it. 26 years. Of course
in honor of our soldiers we sang the star spangled banner. Patrick
Wessie from the National Forest Service (TREE POLICE) gave all the
jeepers a talk about staying on the trail, and tread lightly. First
year of the blessing there were 40 Jeeps, second year there were
105 Jeeps, third year 2004 there were 235 Jeeps. Barb also announced
some new honorary members of the Cadillac Jeepers: Dirk Watson,
Jeff Ellen, Steve Murrey, from the Re-Con jeep group, and Mentors
in Faith Pastor Cliff, and Pastor Dave.
